Dr. Brockmeier came to Northern Kentucky University following a successful career as a trial lawyer, legal adviser, and trial consultant.  Rick was raised in the greater Cincinnati area and earned a Bachelor Degree in Philosophy from the University of Cincinnati.  He went into the Navy and served on active duty as a Supply Officer of the USS Independence (CVA-62).  His Navy career continued for another 22 years ending when he was selected for Captain as the Commanding Officer of  Navy (combat) Cargo Handling Battalion, RCHB - 9.

After the conclusion of his active duty, he returned to Cincinnati where he graduated with a Juris Doctorate from the University of Cincinnati College of Law and began practice as an attorney specializing in medical malpractice defense.  Over the succeeding years, he concluded post-graduate work at the U. S. Naval War College in Strategy and Policy and In Defense Economics and Decision Making and from the University of the South School of Theology. During that stage of his career, he developed a deep interest in the psychology of the parties and decision-makers and returned to graduate school in where he obtained a Ph.D. in Psychology from the Union Institute and University.  He moved into a new professional area as a trial consultant and continues to advise clients in that function. As an unintended result of his continuing interest in combining his law expertise and his experience in psychology, he started as an Adjunct Professor and then was appointed as a full time faculty member in the Organizational Leadership program.  He has held leadership positions in professional associations, community groups and with private law firms where he was involved in the management and strategic planning of those various kinds of organizations.  He has also advised to and consulted with nonprofit and privately owned firms in leadership development and succession.

He has specific interests in the multidisciplinary aspect of organizational leadership studies with special emphasis on neuroscience, decision-making, organizational dynamics, and complexity theory.  He remains very active in the community lending his support and expertise in leadership positions.  He currently serves on various governance boards, including the Board of Directors of the Blue Ridge Leadership Conference Institute.  His areas of publication are directed towards comparison of online and face to face learning, prophet leadership, teamwork in continually changing athletic teams, and decision-making and complexity theory involved in the multidisciplinary aspects of neuroscience.
